Ventus Funds reach £50m for investment in UK Renewable Energy Projects

(LONDON - 13 July 2009

Climate Change Capital’s Ventus Funds have successfully raised a further £13.85m of capital for investment in the UK renewable energy sector. The Ventus Funds have now raised over £50m since their launch in 2005.

The Ventus Funds are specialist venture capital trusts focused exclusively on making investments in the small to medium sized UK onshore renewable energy sector and are the largest group of funds of their kind. Since 2005 the Ventus Funds have invested £30 million in over 25 companies, contributing to the delivery over 50 megawatts of new generating capacity.

Steve Read, Managing Director of the Ventus Funds at Climate Change Capital said, “To raise this amount of capital from private retail investors in the context of current market conditions is a great result and a testimony to the track record that the Ventus Funds have built over the last four years, both amongst the retail investment community and within the UK renewable energy market.

We have seen continued strong appetite from investors looking to gain exposure to the rapidly expanding UK renewable energy sector and continued interest from project developers who are looking for investment capital from specialists that can help to bring their project to fruition as efficiently as possible. We look forward to putting this new money to work to help develop low carbon projects with a view to delivering strong and stable long term returns for our investors.”
