CCC’s Shaun Mays Joins UK Government’s New Green Economy Council
(London, 16 February 2011) Shaun Mays,
the CEO of Climate Change Capital, has joined a group of high level
business leaders which is to advise government on the green
economy. The Green Economy Council, which meets for the first time
today (Wednesday) will discuss how government and industry can work
together to support the transition to a low carbon economy.
The Council will bring together Ministers from three key
departments - Business, Innovation and Skills, Energy and Climate
Change and Defra. Business Secretary Vince Cable will chair the
first meeting.
Members of the 23 strong council also include: Joe Greenwell,
Chairman Ford UK; Stephen Leonard, CEO IBM; Andy
Reynolds Smith, Divisional CE of GKN; Heidi Mottram, CEO
Northumbrian Water; Dan Labbad CEO Europe Bovis Lend
Lease; Andreas Goss CEO Siemens UK; Nigel Keen John
Lewis Partnership; Nick Bunker MD UK and Ireland Kraft; Neil
Bentley, CBI and Frances O'Grady at TUC.
Mays said: "Climate Change Capital has always believed that the
transition to the low carbon economy represents an opportunity for
businesses to create wealth worth having - to maximise the
opportunities while creating public good. Massive investment is
needed and most of it will come from the private sector. The Green
Economy Council can make a significant contribution in helping
Government understand the needs of investors and formulate the
policy mechanisms to encourage them to finance low carbon
infrastructure and innovation."
