Last Parliament Report Launch

Over the past three months, a distinguished cross-sectoral panel of experts, chaired by Jonathon Porritt, has been drawing up an agenda for action on climate change in the new Parliament - one of whom is James Cameron, Vice Chairman, who will be on the panel at the launch of this report.

Politicians elected in 2010 have a historic responsibility. They will form the last parliament that can take action to avoid runaway climate change. The science tells us that global emissions need to peak during the current decade and decline steeply thereafter.

There are huge benefits for countries who can lead the way in low-carbon technologies and approaches, from energy security to more resilient communities.

The new Parliament in 2010 is the last window of opportunity to seize these opportunities and act to prevent serious, irreversible climate change. In other words, it is the Last Parliament.

The Last Parliament panellists are:

  • Jonathon Porritt, founder director, Forum for the Future, and former chair, Sustainable Development Commission
  • James Cameron, vice chairman and executive director, Climate Change Capital
  • Stephen Hale, director, Green Alliance
  • Steve Holliday, chief executive, National Grid
  • Professor Lord Robert May, Oxford University and member of the Committee on Climate Change
  • Barbara Stocking, chief executive, Oxfam
