Sulfurcell Lures Intel & CCC for US$135m Private Equity Round

German thin-film solar module maker Sulfurcell has clinched EUR 85m (USD 135m) of expansion capital from a posse of heavyweight private equity investors led by Intel and Climate Change Capital.

The latest round sees Intel Capital, an arm of the microprocessor giant, invest EUR 24m (USD 38m), and Climate Change Capital Private Equity Fund EUR 12m (USD 19m). Other contributors included AIG Investments, Demeter, Zouk Ventures, BankInvest Group and Conetwork.

Alex Bettpartner of Climate Change Capital's Private Equity Fund, told New Energy Finance: "We back management teams, and this is a great team at Sulfurcell. We like the thin-film opportunity and the CIGS technology, plus the fact that the company has customers and products and that this is an investment for expansion. It fits our strategy very neatly."
