Private investment in clean technology reaches new record, but UK could do better

Article by Kiran Stacey and Leslie Hook

Ben Caldecott, head of European Policy at Climate Change Capital, appears in the Financial Times, in reference to a report by Pew Environment Group which says that private investment in the UK in clean energy fell last year, relegating the country from third to 13th in a table of Group 20 economies.

"The UK dropping down these rankings is a step backwards, but it is not entirely unexpected given the scope of the coalition government's reforms in the low carbon space and the temporary uncertainty these have created. We're hopeful that if the government can pull off a successful electricity market reform, create the planned green investment bank and clarify current uncertainty, Britain can quickly regain its position at or near the top of the rankings."
