Power The Burning Questions

The nuclear debate has been ignited, but Britain could face a more immediate crisis. As things stand today, the UK is set to lose about a third of its older power stations over the next decade and no new plants are under construction to replace them.

James Cameron, Climate Change Capital, identifies uncertain market conditions which don't promote investment as well as concern about the long-term stability of the carbon price as the two main factors holding back many of the "critical balance sheet investors". "Investors should understand very clearly that we need new investment in new capacity and that capacity needs to be low-carbon capacity."
