Hazardous, but part of the solution
James Cameron, Head of Policy, Climate Change Capital is quoted in a Mike Scott article that outlines the costs and opportunities for engineering emerging from environmental pressures.
"One factor affecting many companies in the sector (old economy) is that a lot of heavy engineering requires chemicals, solvents and gases leading to large amounts of waste, much of it toxic."
"But engineers can also be seen as part of the solution to the problems society faces in years to come. James Cameron, chairman of the bank Climate Change Capital believes engineers will help solve problems such as global warming. "I have a deep conviction that there is a design and engineering response to climate change that is truly exciting to invest in." he says. One area the bank is focusing on is clean coal technology, which reduces the environmental impacts of coal fired power stations."
