Firm's first north wind project

REpower is to install a total of 72 turbines in the Highlands
An Edinburgh-based turbine supplier has opened its first wind farm in the far north of Scotland.

REpower UK's three turbines at Achairn, near Wick, will generate electricity for 3,000 homes from the end of this month.

The project is the first of four wind farms the company has been contracted to deliver in the Highlands.

Once all are completed a total of 72 turbines will have been erected to supply power for 80,000 homes.

Scottish and Southern Energy is the client for the three remaining sites.

The Achairn Wind Farm was funded by London-based investment managers Climate Change Capital for local landowners and brothers, James and Ronald Innes.
