Emissions trading market is hotting up

2006 saw some highs and lows for the EU carbon market but 2007 is looking positive, writes Mike Scott.

"The carbon market endured a torrid time in 2006 but it was also the year that the market came of age, with more than 1bn tonnes of carbon dioxide traded in Europe alone, at a value of more than €18bn (£12bn) ...specialist bank Climate Change Capital followed up its $100m fund in 2005, 'which was big in '05 but small in '06', according to Mark Woodall, chief executive, with a $1bn fund that is set to close shortly."
