Electricity Market Reforms – the reaction

Energy Secretary Chris Huhne today unveiled a package of measures to encourage low-carbon investment and upgrade the nation's electricity networks.

Ben Caldecott, head of European policy at Climate Change Capital, said the reforms were good news for investors.

"If implemented, the reforms could be a collective victory for price stability over volatility, new clean technologies over the old polluting ones, and a win for exports over imports. Although today is only the end of the beginning for a complex reform process, we are now significantly closer to ending the uncertainty that has weakened UK energy sector investment."
