Efficiency: Upfront costs remain the biggest barrier

Energy efficiency should be a no-brainer for businesses. Companies can immediately save money, often at little or no upfront cost, by taking simple measures such as turning off equipment.


Climate Change Capital, an investment company, says the savings can go further - improving energy efficiency makes buildings more attractive to buyers and tenants. An analysis for the company suggests the selling price of a building can be increased by about 8 per cent by energy efficiency measures, while the rental value can rise between 16 and 20 per cent.
