Climate Change Capital’s Lord Oxburgh Wins Platts Life Time Achievement Award
Lord Ronald Oxburgh, a member of Climate
Change Capital's Advisory Board, has been awarded the prestigious
'Platt's Lifetime Achievement Award', it was announced today.
The award recognises "outstanding achievement and vision in the
global energy industry" and in their citation, the judges said they
were impressed by Lord Oxburgh's long-standing prominence in the
climate change field and his advocacy of renewable energy since as
far back as the 1970s.
The judges also said they were also impressed by "his very high ethical standards - standards which led him to warn of the potential environmental damage from the global hydrocarbons industry even while serving as chairman of one of the world's largest oil companies." Lord Oxburgh was chairman of Shell until recently.
Lord Oxburgh, who as well as advising Climate Change Capital is the chairman of D1 Oils, the UK-based global producer of biodiesel, is a renowned scientist and parliamentarian.
He is a graduate of the Universities of Oxford and Princeton. He has taught geology and geophysics at the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge. He has been a visiting professor at Stanford University, the California Institute of Technology and Cornell University. Lord Oxburgh has been a member of the Science and the Engineering Research Council, the Natural Environment Research Council, and the Advisory Council for Science and Technology. From 1988 to 1993 he was chief scientific adviser to the Ministry of Defence, and from 1993 to 2001, Rector of Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine. He is a member of A*star (Advisory Committee on Science, Technology and Research for Singapore). He is a Fellow of the Royal Society, an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and a Foreign Member of the U.S. Academy of Sciences.
