Backing is needed to build a bright future

...When the big funds do begin investing at scale, London's financial services sector is well placed to profit from it, says James Cameron founder of Climate Change Capital. "We have great skills in private equity and in designing financial instruments that are attractive to the big liquid investment markets.

"If you look through the whole ecosystem of financial services, law, financial advisers and consultants there's a tremendous amount of know how here that can be turned to providing a solution to funding environmental and clean-tech programmes."

Some green sectors are already proving themselves, such as the retrofitting of commercial properties to make them far more energy efficient, says Mr Cameron. "Our experience in our property fund is good and we think it's an area that will be attractive to mainstream investors. There's a massive potential for reducing energy demand in buildings."
